Diana Baker Smith is an artist and lecturer at UNSW Art & Design with expertise in contemporary art theory, practice led research and performance studies.
Dr Mark Ian Jones is an architect and design history scholar in the Faculty of Art and Design. As Deputy Head of School (Design), Dr Jones is also a respected academic who is best known for his single authored book, ‘Vicke Lindstrand On the Periphery: An examination of mid-twentieth century Swedish design and the reception of Vicke Lindstrand’, based on his PhD thesis, published in the Figura Nova Series by Uppsala University Press in November 2016.
Grant Stevens, Deputy Head of School (Art) at UNSW Art & Design, is an artist and academic with expertise in contemporary art practice and theory. His teaching, research and practice focus on the relationships between photography, the moving image, and emerging digital cultures.
Dr Edward Scheer works across Performance Studies and Visual Culture and is currently engaged in two collaborative ARC funded Discovery projects Towards an Experimental Humanties with colleagues (Brannigan and Muecke) at UNSW and New Media Dramaturgy with an international team (Eckersall and Grehan et al). His new book with Helena Grehan is William Yang: Stories of Love and Death (New South Press, 2015) and The Dumb Type Reader with Peter Eckersall is forthcoming with MTP Press in Copenhagen in 2016.
Dr Vaughan Dai Rees is the Associate Dean - International, in the Faculty of Art & Design. He is a practicing artist and, an art and design educator. His research focuses on Visual Autobiography as both an artistic outcome and as a research methodology. The dominant medium of his art practice is drawing and recently he has been exploring the notion of place, travel, personal consumption and global transformation. Dr Rees has exhibited in Australia, Canada, China, Singapore and the United States of America. He co-authored the successful book series Artifacts published by Mc
Simon is the Associate Dean Education at UNSW Sydney | Art & Design, a member of the UNSW Scientia Education Academy, and a TEQSA Expert. He is a multi-award winning educator, passionate about improving the effectiveness, quality and relevance of the student learning experience, and about pedagogically driven use of technology to innovate learning and teaching practices. He is committed to continuing to improve and innovate the learning experience of students in art and design disciplines.
Professor Marie Sierra joined UNSW's Faculty Art & Design in July 2014 as Deputy Dean and Head of School; from July 2014 to September 2020 she was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty. Previously she was the Head of School, Tasmanian College of the Arts, at the University of Tasmania. Prior to that she was at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, in roles as Head of Sculpture & Spatial Practice, and Coordinator of Higher Degree Research, both in the School of Art; and Associate Dean Research for the Faculty of the VCA.
Deborah Turnbull Tillman is a curator specialising in design, technology and new media. Her first curatorial project was Beta_space, an experimental gallery at the Powerhouse Museum focused on the audience’s role in interactive art. This fueled her interest in how technology augments traditional art practice and how the audience is becoming a necessary material for technology based art. She then joined the curatorial team at the Powerhouse Museum as Assistant Curator – Design & Technology, where she curated exhibitions such as ISEA2013, designTECH, Good Design and Game Masters.
I am a Professor of Practice in Art & Design at UNSW and CTO for Old Ways, New an Indigenous owned and manager social enterprise working across service design, placemaking and digital product development. For the last 15 years, I've been exploring new ways to use digital to connect people to culture and place. In 2018 I was named in Fast Company's 100 Most Creative in Business for my work in this area.
