The UNSW Professorial Inaugural Lectures continue through the month of November. The series invites the University’s newly promoted and recruited professors to mark their achievement and showcase their current research and specialist knowledge with a lecture in front of colleagues, students, alumni, staff, friends, family and the broader community.
For our fourth lecture, please join us as we discover ‘Uncertainty Art: The space between Art, Science and Humanity’ with Professor Paul Thomas and ‘How bodies and technologies ‘matter’ to each other' with Professor Anna Munster.
UNSW Art & Design Professor Anna Munster is an artist and writer. Her latest ARC funded research examines the impact of deep neural networks on our engagement with visual culture. Anna is the author of two books about art and technology and regularly exhibits media art in national and international galleries and museums. She is also is a founding member of the online peer-reviewed journal The Fibreculture Journal.
UNSW Art & Design Professor Paul Thomas is the Director of the Studio for Transdisciplinary Art Research (STAR) at and is the co-chair of the Transdisciplinary Imaging Conference series 2010-2018. Paul is a pioneer of transdisciplinary art practice. His current practice-led research takes not only inspiration from nanoscience and quantum theory, but actually operates there. His work is exhibited nationally and internationally and his new book Quantum Art and Uncertainty will be published in 2018.
