You are warmly invited to the official launch of PARRAGIRLS Reimagining Parramatta Girls Home through art and memory edited by Lily Hibberd with Bonney Djuric, both Adjunct Lecturers at UNSW Art & Design, and published by NewSouth Books.
This seminal publication traces the history of the Parramatta Female Factory Precinct Memory Project founded by Bonney Djuric and Lily Hibberd. The Memory Project developed a new model of ethical practice to engage with and interpret institutional sites of confinement that would place former occupants at the centre of the process rather than at the periphery as subjects, or footnotes.
The Parramatta Female Factory Precinct Memory Project was a collective journey and artwork that enabled former residents, artists and curators to challenge societal perceptions about ‘children placed in institutional care’ and dismantle prejudices held about people who were once confined, particularly the Forgotten Australians and Stolen Generations.
Come celebrate this significant achievement with the those who have made this publication possible, and Australia’s institutional history visible and no longer Forgotten. RSVP here
Parragirls and The Big Anxiety Festival will also to host a ‘Long Table’ celebration of female survivors, political and community leaders, and activists who speak truth to power. For more details please click here
