UNSW Galleries presents 'Australia to Arabia: Feminist Activism in the Arts' in conjunction with the launch of the catalogue for Enough خلص Khalas: Contemporary Australian Muslim artists, currently on display until 14 July.
This special panel discussion brings together exhibiting artists Ms Saffaa and Leila El Rayes with poet and human rights activist Sara Saleh to explore feminist activism and the agency of Muslim women artists, both locally and internationally. Sarah Malik, Deputy Editor of SBS Life, will moderate as panellists consider the role of women in social and political activism and the use of art as a catalyst for change.
Enough خلص Khalas is a landmark exhibition exploring the perspectives and lived experiences of contemporary Australian Muslim artists. The exhibition offers a response to the recent politicisation of the Muslim identity, creatively challenging the current socio-political climate.
The exhibition catalogue features new writing from the co-curators of Enough خلص Khalas, UNSW Art & Design Associate Professor Phillip George and independent curator Nur Shkembi. The catalogue also includes writing from Dr Chrisoula Lionis, Research Fellow at the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at University of Manchester, and Dr Uroš Čvoro, Senior Lecturer in Art Theory at UNSW Art & Design.
