A significant temporary public art opportunity is open for comission for artists interested in creating work for public domain areas within Sydney Olympic Park. The program will involve commissioning at least four new installations. Full details can be found in the brief linked here (including images of some temporary works we’ve exhibited at three of these locations in the past).
Sydney Olympic Park is undergoing a major transformation while ensuring that it continues to be a place with a strong arts and cultural dimension to it. There are 10,000,000 visitors annually, and a large portion of these traverse the public domain areas earmarked for this project. Residential and worker communities are growing dramatically, and this marks a shift from the Park being just a big, public space where people come to see large events to becoming a place where people spend large chunks of their lives. An important part of this program is to encourage reflection on this fundamental change in the Park’s character, and on what it might mean to make a new place.
The closing date for submissions is 16 March 2018.
