You are invited to participate in the A&D ANNUAL 17 graduate exhibition
Is this your year to be part of the widely anticipated and unmissable A&D ANNUAL graduate exhibition?
A highlight on Sydney’s cultural calendar, the ANNUAL launches the next generation of artists, designers, makers and digital media creators.
Bring your friends and family to the opening night party with thousands of UNSW Art & Design alumni, industry, friends and supporters for an exhibition you will never forget.
To participate you must register online. Registrations are open now. See more key dates below.
About the ANNUAL
The largest national showcase of graduate contemporary art, design and creative media work, the A&D ANNUAL encompasses exhibitions and screenings and will feature exciting new work by approximately 200 participating artists and creatives, spanning interdisciplinary installations, animation, media and film, digital media and graphic design, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, sound, spatial design, furniture and jewellery design, textile design, design for social innovation, ceramics and more.
A&D ANNUAL 2017 will be displayed and screened in various locations across UNSW Art & Design's Paddington campus, with exhibition spaces including UNSW Galleries, ADspace, the Black Box, outdoor courtyard, and Kudos Gallery.
All students graduating from UNSW Art & Design coursework programs are invited to participate in the A&D ANNUAL 2017.
You are eligible to participate in the ANNUAL if you will complete all courses in your Art & Design program in 2017. Students in Dual Awards can exhibit even if they have not completed their other program, as long as the Art & Design program will be completed this year. (Exceptions can be made for students who have 6 to 12 units of credit in electives or General Education remaining – ask your Cluster Leader.)
For students enrolled in postgraduate programs: you may exhibit if you will complete all core courses, including project and capstone courses, in 2017.
Key contacts to register online and participate include:
Registrations to exhibit open: Monday 4 September
Registrations close: Midnight, Tuesday 3 October
Exhibition installation dates: 15–24 November (participants will be advised of detailed installation timelines closer to the event)
Opening Night Party: Tuesday 28 November
Exhibition dates: 29 November – 9 December
Exhibition deinstall: Sunday 10 – Tuesday 12 December
If you have any questions or require further information regarding the ANNUAL, please direct these queries to your individual Cluster Leaders who will be your main point of contact throughout the lead-up to this exhibition. It will be most efficient if individual Cluster Leaders gather your questions and pass them on to the staff at UNSW Galleries, if needed.
If you do not know who your cluster leader is, or if you completed your studies mid-year and do not have a current cluster leader, your contact is Sam Spurr (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Please note that if you anticipate you will need specialised or complex install requirements (i.e. AV heavy, WHS risk etc.), you must directly contact UNSW Galleries staff well before the installation period, as well as dialogue with your Cluster Leaders in order to achieve your vision. A thorough list of contacts appears at the end of this document.
Please ensure you have completed the online registration form for the ANNUAL. Registration is a key step in capturing exhibition content as early as possible. If you are confused about what is required in these forms, please ask your Cluster Leader for clarification during class.
The form must be completed to a strict deadline, as beyond this point coordination becomes almost impossible.
AV resources will be drawn from UNSW Galleries, Resource Centre and CSU, and will be available for booking four weeks out from the start of install. AV equipment will be allocated on a ‘first-in-best-dressed’ basis.
Once we have captured your production requirements via the Production Registration form we will let you know where you should book your equipment from.
If resources are limited and there is not enough to go around, you might need to source your own equipment.
Please note you will need to provide your own tools, hardware etc. where possible.
Installation, Layout and Space Allocation
The works in this year’s ANNUAL will be installed by cluster groups.
In consultation with Cluster Leaders and UNSW Galleries staff, a space will be allocated to your cluster group. Exact space availability will not be confirmed until after the online registration closes on 3rd October.
The exhibiting cohort this year is large, and therefore space will be limited. Discuss your submissions with your Cluster Leaders as they will be advising you on selecting what work to exhibit, and where it will be installed. Cluster Leaders will assist in streamlining your installation to work within the space available in order to present a professional exhibition.
Please note UNSW Galleries staff is here to assist with installation on a technical level, not a curatorial level, though reserves the right to make curatorial decisions about the placement and presentation of works in the exhibition as required.
In the lead up to install, each cluster will be assigned a two-day installation period and this will be binding.
UNSW Galleries will be providing a professional installation team to assist with the install but it is also highly recommended you bring as much help with you as possible (i.e. family and friends) to expedite the process. The UNSW Galleries install team will have oversight of all AV installation.
Installation period: 15 November – 24 November, 2017.
Please note that you will be required to remove your work from the exhibition spaces during these three days. There are no exceptions.
Artworks that haven’t been removed off site by 5pm, Tuesday 12th December 2017 will be disposed of. All borrowed equipment will be the responsibility of students to return.
It is very important that artworks are removed punctually. UNSW Galleries does not have storage space available, and in the ten days before Christmas will be installing a large show for the Sydney Festival (opening 6th January).
De-installation period: Sunday 10 – Tuesday 12 December (inclusive).
