Interactive Media Lab

Technology

The Interactive Media Lab (IML) at UNSW School of Art & Design researches and teaches emerging media technologies and their application in creative work. Its co-directors are Dr Ollie Bown and Dr Patricia Flanagan. 

The lab’s research areas include: 

  • immersive environments 
  • data visualisation 
  • media architecture and media facades 
  • spatial audio 
  • wearable technology 
  • biofeedback 
  • music and performance technology 
  • the potential for creative agency in machines.

Equipment

Equipment available at the IML includes: 

  • high end graphics development computer and a selection of Phidget inputs 
  • Eye Tribe Eye Tracker 
  • ZED Stereo Cameras 
  • Epson EB-575We Ultrashort throw Projectors x 2 
  • MUSE Brainwave sensors for neurofeeback interactions x 4 
  • ZOTAC Mini PC’s for mobile and outdoor installations x 4 
  • Genelec 8030  - active speaker system for 5.1 surround sound 
  • RME Fireface and a RME Octamic II - 8 Channel Microphone Preamp  
  • BARE conductive touch boards x 9  
  • collection of Manfrotto clamps and rigging equipment for AV installation.
